Jewels beyond treasure....

Okay, it's Friday night and I've been swamped. Meetings all day (very productive) but not much chance to 'throw away'. More like collecting more! Oh well.

Now it's 9:00 pm., and my little family of 3 is engaging in its own ritual of de-stressing from our busy weeks. Larry's watching the replay of the Master's in the den, Harrison's using his laptop as TV to watch an old Pokemon show, and I'm ensconced just where I want to be. In our bedroom, cozy and comfy, waiting for the start of tonight's What Not To Wear. Stacy, Clinton and me. A standing Friday night date.

Although it's tempting to skip my giving away and just stretch out on the bed, my better self emerges from its torpor and I bring my all my jumbled up jewelry out of the closet and my top dresser drawer and sit it on the bed with me.

Wow! Sparkle and shine. Chains of silver and gold. Beads and baubles. Only a few pieces of what you might call 'valuable' like my treasured David Yurman earrings Larry gave me for my big 5-O, my collected pearls and tennis bracelet. But every piece chosen for a reason and worthy of consideration.

What to keep? Or more like it - what (if anything) can I bear to give away? Well, it's funny, because once I started looking through it all, I found empty suede pouches, a brooch who's back needs to be fixed, a pearl necklace that wants some TLC with a new clasp. And some plain old, gosh darned junk that needs to be somebody's dress up stuff.

As a whole, the shining pile seemed like a pirate's chest, but taken one by one some were treasures and some were trash. It took me taking the time to go through them one by one to tell the difference.

Now I know not just What Not To Wear, I know what treasures I have at my disposal to decorate myself and my life!
