Want to dress up?

It's Halloween, and I'm writing this in between rings of the doorbell and shouts of 'trick or treat.' There's something extra special about a holiday in the middle of the week. Every normal schedule gets set aside for little while. And on this one of a kind day, you get to dress up as anything you want on top of everything else. Who could ask for anything more?

If you were dressing up this year (and maybe some of you are) who - or what - would you be? Already tonight I've seen a grown-up Spider Man, a miniature Jack Sparrow, the full cast of characters from the Wizard of Oz - even a clever bottle of Dasani water. But wait. My question here is serious. Who would you be if you could be anyone you chose? What costume would you wear? What mannerism? What personality? Work with me here, girls. Visit the theater of your mind and tell me what part you'd like to play.

Maybe it's time we all got back in touch with our inner trick or treater, played around with what our dream costume would be, and then, live with it a bit. How do you feel? What does it bring out in you that you might ignore in your oh-so-busy life? Hmmmm. Maybe, just maybe, we're gathering clues to what just might be missing in our lives - or at least what's hidden from view that may need to be brought to light, at least every now and then.

Got your mind moving? Good! Now, I've got to run; the doorbell's ringing. Where did I put those Wonder Woman cuffs?

"The difficult I can do today....

The impossible will take a little longer." So said that Lady who sang the blues, Miss Billie Holiday. Billie, I hear you, girl. Today was one of those days I felt like I was walking through deep mud. It just kept sucking on my pumps and slowing down my progress.

What do you do with days like that? Well, not having you on hand to share, I just sucked it up, took a deep, cleansing breath, and slogged on. I got to the end of the day determined to finish at least ONE thing on my list and actually made it to two.

Well, in the words of that other Atlanta gal, 'tomorrow's another day.' I'm going to bed early tonight and wake up to a new day, hopefully one where the sun's come out and dried up all that pesky mud.

See you on the path!

Wants or needs?

I realized today that I'm one of those people who loves to receive gift certificates, for anything from a day at the spa, to a Starbucks gift card. I lovingly thank the giver, and cherish the thoughts of my relaxation, the largest Chai tea latte on the menu... whatever the card is for.

I drive through Starbucks and pull out my wallet. But then reality strikes! Since I didn't want to 'lose it', the treasured card is at home in my other purse. LOL Or I hold out the golden carrot of that special day of relaxation all for me until... eeek! It's expired. Sigh. An amazing day wasted. And all because I waited for the perfect moment. For the day I'd 'really need it.' Do you know what I mean?

Okay, time for a New Year's resolution. (Yes, I know it's only October, but you know for me this is the time for new starts.) I hereby resolve to use my gift cards, my gift certificates, my credits for returning stuff to T. J. Maxx, whatever it is... WHEN I RECEIVE THEM!

No more delayed gratification for this girl. I'm treating myself right... starting NOW! Why wait for some day out there sometime in the future when I could be having all that fun today? Or in the words of the title character in one of my favorite Sandra Deer plays: "My daddy always said, 'Gal Baby, if you want it, you need it.' "

Ahh.... I hear my massage appointment being called now... excuse me, girls. Got to go.
